IMPACT OF COVID-19 IN CENTRAL JAVA
COVID-19 has been spreading for almost two years in
Indonesia since 2020. This outbreak came with a big impact in every sector in
Indonesia, especially in the hospitality industry in Central Java. Tourist
destinations have become one of the important aspects in increasing the
country’s economy. A lot of popular tourist destinations in Central Java that
pulled many tourists both local and overseas must be closed because of the
pandemic. This pandemic makes the hospitality industry in Central Java facing
tourists reduction and economical problems.
Tourists reduction is one of the biggest impacts in the
hospitality industry. During COVID-19, the Indonesian government made policy
restrictions on travel to and from the red zone of transmission countries. This
restriction policy made an impact on flight schedules, many airlines cancel
their flights to stop the spread of COVID-19. It also declines in foreign
tourists who will visit Indonesia. The restriction policy not only for foreign
tourists but also for the local tourists. The invitation from the Indonesian
government to stay at home to avoid the spread of the COVID-19 makes local
tourists did not go to the tourist destinations.
The COVID-19 also has an impact on income from the
hospitality industries in Central Java. Tourists’ reduction followed by the
income reduction. Many hospitality industries such as hotels, restaurants,
travel, and tourism decreased their income because tourists did not visit. The
reductions in tourists and income make employees who work in hospitality
industries threatened to lose their job. There also many tourist destinations
in Central Java closed because they can not survive this pandemic. The employees
can only pray for this pandemic can be done as soon as possible to raise the
hospitality industry in Central Java.

makes the Indonesian hospitality industry facing the tourists’ reduction. The
tourists’ reduction has an impact on income reduction, many tourist destinations
closed and employees who work in the hospitality industries threatened to lose
their job. In conclusion, COVID-19 has a big impact on hospitality industries
in Indonesia, especially in Central Java.
